The mission of the Archives is to appraise, acquire, preserve, maintain, and provide access to the administrative, evidential and historical records created in traditional and emerging formats by the Faculty of Medicine, its departments, special programs, centres, institutes, as well as those archival materials created by organizations and individuals associated with the Faculty of Medicine.

As a repository and custodian of archival records containing administrative, evidential, and historical value, the Archives provides access to the holdings for faculty, staff, alumni, and students of the Faculty of Medicine and to the larger local, regional, national, and international research community.

Records management and collecting policies

The Archives acquires materials that contain: administrative value (records that support the operations and routine management of the Faculty of Medicine), evidential value (records that provide information about the origins, functions, and development of the Faculty of Medicine, and historical value (records deemed significant for understanding the history of medicine).

The Archives acquires recorded information, regardless of the physical form or characteristics, including textual records, photographic materials, audio and video recordings, electronic and digital media, and artifacts created by any organization or individual associated with the Faculty of Medicine.

Published materials acquired by the Archives are restricted to newspaper and journal clippings, university and faculty publications, biographical monographs, websites, and ephemera.
Books will only be acquired by the Archives when there are special or compelling reasons for their integration with acquired archival records.

The Faculty of Medicine Archives is open weekdays from 8:30 to 4:30. The Archives is closed on weekends.
